Ok, so my hair was DYED jet black. I bleached it out with quick-blue bleach, 40 developer, covered under heat for 45 minutes. Then I used a beige blonde dye with un-red and 40 developer to help even out the color. The roots (that were vigin hair) is a gorgeous color. The rest is still rather yellow. I am going to condition the shit out of it for a few days then I want to bleach it again. I really want PLATINUM hair (with as little damage as possible hahaha.) Any suggestions to get it less yellow? Even if it wasn't platinum, it would be ok if it wasn't so yellow. It actually got WAY lighter than I thought it would in just those two treatments. It had been black for quite some time.

Re: Platinum
Mon, August 14, 2006 - 1:24 PMI can never get my hair really pale with just bleach - it always turns yellow, no matter how much I bleach it. I think you need some kind of toner to get the brassy tones out. -

That's because the bleach only zaps the melanin that's inside the hair shaft, leaving it transparent - the cuticle itself is what's yellow, particularily if you're a brunette to begin with. Using a pale violet toner will cancel out the yellow. Be careful not to leave it on too long unless you want lilac colored hair.
You can also use a "silver" shampoo which does essentially the same thing but more subtley - they're usually marketed towards people with grey hair and most beauty supply places have them. -

Re: Platinum
Mon, August 14, 2006 - 8:57 PMJust so you don't misunderstand, a silver shampoo is shampoo with a bit of purple toner mixed in. I can't remember the brand name of the one I used to use but I think they're all the same.
A toner with blue and beige won't quite get you to platinum, though it will take out some brassiness. You really should try violet. -

Re: Platinum
Fri, September 15, 2006 - 7:31 AMalso remember the beige can sometimes have a gold base to it, which will not take out the yellow.
you can buy the silver shampoo at most stores, artec makes a fantastic one, but it is in the salon only(unless fred meyers has that now too)
there is a chance the yellow will not come all the way out. tint stains the hair too, you may not be able to get out the las tof the color.
Bleach will lift virgin hair to platinum, but remeber the lighter the hair with bleach the more you are opening and possilbly blowing the cuticle. best to bring to a very pale yellow VERY PALE and then tone with a platinum toner, shampoos will work sometimes, but nothing beats a good quality toner on bleached hair.
i believe schwarxkopf has a toning mousse, not a styling product. but its a foaming toner, that is left on from 2 to 20 minutes and i think it scalled ice flower or something like that. this is a pro product, but talk to your hair stylist or call schwarzkopf themselves to see where it may be sold.
in Porltand, Oregon it is sold through Maly's but to stylist only -

Tue, February 13, 2007 - 11:13 AMthis toner seems to be available here: www.evabeauty.com/products/.../11307.asp
I haven't ordered it, so buyer beware, but it looks like the same product you're talking about. BTW, thanks for your information, as a self-bleacher, it's great to get it from someone who knows!

Re: Platinum
Tue, February 27, 2007 - 10:08 AMhey, you should have used a color corrector before you bleached it, one such as rusk's elimin8. then by now all your hair would have been the platinum your roots currently are, and yes a violet or ash toner will help you get rid of the brassy tones, just make sure you don't get it on the platinum stuff of it could turn violet/blue/green/grey...get a friend to help

Re: Platinum
Fri, March 30, 2007 - 10:34 AMShimmer Lights shampoo is a good violet-based shampoo to try (believe you can get this at drugstores too). I agree to be careful with violet toners...I'm a hairstylist and those can go horribly wrong if you don't know what you're doing.
